Andrew Malcolm of the LA Times offers what must be seen (coming from the MSM) as a radical departure from the standard “Palin is stupid/Barack is a genius” template:
“Not that it matters politically because obviously [Palin]‘s a female Republican dunce and [Obama]’s obviously a male Democratic genius.”
But Sarah Palin’s poll numbers are strengthening.
And President Obama’s are sliding.
Guess what? They’re about to meet in the 40s.
In other words, Palin is still stupid and Barack is still a political genius, yet their approval ratings are converging! What breathtaking originality! Pulitzer Committee, take note.
The Times piece fails to explain why this “obviously” Republican dunce’s star is rising while political genius Obama’s is falling. Much like Churchill’s description of the Soviet Union, our media-manufactured colossus’s plummeting approval ratings would seem to be “a riddle, wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.”
For the Times, Palin’s standing as a Republican dunce and Obama’s reputation as a Democratic genius are apparently so self-evidently obvious that furnishing evidence is unnecessary. This unexamined premise seems to a collective MSM/liberal Democrat phenomenon. Ask a liberal Democrat for evidence of Palin’s stupidity and they will invariably cite Palin’s claim that she could see Russia from her house, even though it was Tina Fey impersonating Palin who actually said this. Ask for an actual quote and you will be met with either a blank stare or the preposterous claim that there are so many examples, they cannot list even one.
As for evidence for Obama’s supposed genius, his supporters can’t even cite a clever-sounding Fred Armisen SNL soundbite. Obama’s reputation for intelligence is largely a product of his narcissism and hyperinflated self-importance, which gives him the appearance of someone who sounds smart, at least when reading scripted remarks from a teleprompter. Sans-teleprompter, he’s as gaffe-prone as Joe Biden and can match Caroline Kennedy with an “uh” for every one of her “you knows.”
It would have been helpful if the Times’ piece pointed out that Obama’s low approval numbers are artificially inflated by the remarkably uncritical reporting he receives from media entities like the LA Times. (Perhaps this is akin to asking a fish to describe water: “Water! What water?”) One can only imagine where Palin’s and Obama’s approval numbers would be if the MSM gave Palin the fawning praise it lavishes on Obama, and treated Obama with the contempt and derision shown to Palin. If it wasn’t for the 24/7 Emanuel Goldstein treatment Palin receives, her approval numbers would likely be in the 90’s, while the “Democratic genius” would be in low single-digits.
Ironically, the liberal media is squandering its own shrinking credibility in a concerted effort to maintain Comrade Obama’s popularity long enough to advance his radical redistributionist agenda. As a result, a growing number of Americans are beginning to question or reject a media meta-narrative they see as increasingly at odds with reality. Stripped of his media cheerleader soundtrack, what more and more Americans are seeing is a man who hates his country — or who at least harbors deep-seated resentment toward the traditions and institutions that gave us unprecedented freedom and prosperity. With more Americans growing uneasy over his rapid expansion of federal power, massive wasteful spending and unsustainable deficits, now they see a president who wants to give enemy combatants who masterminded the 9/11 terrorist attacks a public stage to spew their hatred of America.
Perhaps it is decisions like these and this president’s radical, anti-American, anti-freedom ideology that explain his and the MSM’s incredibly shrinking approval numbers.
Just a thought.
